Sheridan Blunt – Melbourne City as Catchment
Sheridan Blunt is the Coordinator for the “Melbourne as Catchment” Research Project for the Melbourne City Council. Catchments are often thought of as pristine natural environments, yet the bulk of rainfall in Australia is more likely to fall within urban centers.
What might be the benefits and strategies that surround notions of urban / city water catchments? The project is researching water usage, and tracks all the flows of water in, around and out of the city in order to establish the basis for a new distributed water system for Melbourne. Sheridan discusses Melbourne City Council’s approach and outlines some of the responses the project is already receiving from urban planners.
